Morning After Spray: refreshing without washing 

When the life cycle of a garment is examined, the largest CO2 emissions can be found in the “use phase”. This means that washing, drying and ironing have a large impact on climate change. Together, washing, drying and ironing contribute for 40 to 80% to the total amount of greenhouse gases (CO2) emitted during the life cycle of a garment (1). This because all three of these processes are occurring at high temperatures thereby consuming a large amount of -until today mostly fossil- energy.

In addition to the impact on climate change, laundering goes together with numerous other harmful effects on the environment, such as the release of microplastics and non-biodegradable detergents in local watercourses, rivers and oceans. Finally, there is the issue of water scarcity as washing consumes many liters of fresh drinking water while this same water is a resource that we will have to use much more sparingly in the near future.

At HNST we are embracing a holistic approach towards sustainability, we want to tackle issues occurring after our jeans have been sold. To support you in decreasing your “use phase impact”, we’ve developed the Morning After Spray. Inspired by biomimicry, this user-friendly spray contains active probiotic bacteria freshening up your jeans by competing away all smelly bacteria. This 100% natural cleaning method does not only remove unwanted odors, it also prevents them from coming back. This way you can reduce the amount of required washing cycled with 50% which - on a yearly basis- enables you to save about 1365 liters of water. (2)

With the Morning After Spray, you only need to wash your jeans when you want to remove stains. If, because of using the spray, you would put your jeans in the washing machine after wearing it 8 times instead of after 4 times, you would save 1365 liters of water per year.
